I tryed to patch the theme dealy and when I searched for the uxtheme.dl_ files it said there were no files found. I'm so confuzzled it's not even funny. Could anyone please tell me what to do  oh BTW this is a really cool site and the members who post seem nice too :D .

Can you load any themes? Download and install one of LighStar's themes. Close and re-open StarSkin and then apply it from the Themes tab. If the theme works, your uxtheme.dll file is fine.

What confuses most people is that visual styles (themes that only come with a .msstyle file, not a .theme file - like pretty much everything here that isn't a LightStar theme) don't show up under the Themes tab in StarSkin. They show up under the Styles tab in the Visual Styles drop-down menu.

Oh, make sure you extract downloaded themes/visual styles to c:\windows\resources\themes. That's where StarSkin looks for them.

You dont necessarily need star skin for loading themes, just extract the theme in c:\windows\resources\themes\"theme name", then right click on your desktop, goto properties, click the " Appearance " tab, then for the two pull down menus " Windows and Buttons" and " Color Scheme " just select the theme you downloaded :D

This wont work for all themes, but it's just an idea in case star skin still gives you problems.

:Dty guys for the help it made it seem much easier.....BUT  I'm having trouble downloading the files they seemd to get to 17% then the download progress screen stops telling me how much has downloaded then it just keeps downloading and downloading and doesn't stop. Should I get my boots on and kick this machine out the window or could there be something that I'm doing wrong when I try to download. lol.gif sorry I know I'm a pain. I'm just now learning all the cool stuff about puters instead of just how to use them.

if you are trying to patch the theme .dll it is located in your windows system32 folder ..c/windows/system32
go directly to it
but then if the files sre not packaged correctly which most are not you have to add folders and change names , can be a pain......i dont like stylexp at all but it works and is easy to use , just download style xp

oopsy !!! silly me
if you are going to use .dll patch again its in folder i stated before
......but be careful to back up old dll by renaming it to uxtheme.dll.old and leave it where it is
then copy the patched .dll to the same directory
