Quote - At the launch of the new HTC Touch HD2 smartphone, HTC CEO Peter Chou mentioned that the company still has an interest in the netbook segment and added that HTC is carefully looking into that (netbook) category. Apparently, the push to jump in netbook segment comes from the arrival of Nokia Booklet 3G.

Just like Nokia shook the world with its Booklet 3G netbook, HTC is planning to do something similar but in a different way. At the Touch HD2 launch, Chou explained that HTC hasn't come out with a netbook as it doesn't want to introduce yet another netbook with standard features. HTC says it wants to bring a netbook with "unique value".

At the moment, HTC has the 7-inch HTC Shift portable that runs a full desktop version of Windows Vista and weighs 800g. So, it is likely that HTC might roll out a netbook with Windows 7 Starter/Android (just our assumption) and basic computing capacities. Slowly and gradually, the netbook segment is getting crowded with too many folks jumping in and the existing players releasing similar model name bearing new netbooks.
