I download a theme, Clock Work Orange (Cool theme, you should try it drinks.gif ) and I needed to install the TGT SOFT program and I did, and it worked fine. Until the trail ended. I'm fine I don't have those themes anymore but I miss my Windows XP theme. Each time I try to change it back to the reg. XP theme it changes the background icons cursers and stuff like that, but not the start bar :(. The start bar changes to a the Windows classic startbar..

The TGT soft program isn't uninstalled yet, I just learned that the trail ended when I booted my computer, and I forgot to hit "Uninstall". Can that be it?

How can I change it back to the reg. XP theme?

(As you guess, I'm running on XP :P)

Thank you
hamesh
You should be okay to uninstall Style XP and then reboot. That should restore your original uxtheme.dll file. But if you still can't load the default Win XP theme, you should be able to restore your original uxtheme.dll file from a backup. Windows keeps a few copies around. I'd just uninstall it, reboot and see if that fixes things.

I Uninstalled, restarted and switched to the XP theme, and it didn't work. :(

Should I delete the theme folders that the TGT soft left behind? Like there is the Panther Folder, but not the theme (Pretty sure it got deleted when TGT soft got Uninstalled.)

I'm Computer - Challenged when it comes to backup and stuff, and the uxtheme.dll file.

Thanks

Have a look in c:\windows\system32 and make sure you have a file named uxtheme.dll. If you do, great. Next, open Control Panel and go to Administrative Tools --> Services. Look down the big list for 'Themes'. Make sure it says Status=Started and Startup Type=Automatic.

If you don't have a uxtheme.dll file in c:\windows\system32, it's easy enought to restore it from a backup. If the Themes service isn't running, just right click it in the Services list and Start it. Report back :)

I checked in the System 32 file, and I had it (Yay.). Then I opened control panel went to Adminisrative tools and went to services, found the themes and it said already:

Status=Started and Start type= Automatic.
(I can get a picture for you- using print screen, not that computer challenged. :))

And it's like that. Should I re-boot?

thanks
