So you have Vista and are looking to customize it like you were able to with XP. Well bad news I'm afraid. While there does exist a patched uxtheme.dll for Vista, there are few, if any, themes available for it. This is because no one has yet made any software that makes themes for Vista (using the native format).

And due to the new Vista Aero/Glass GUI, XP themes can't be loaded up on Vista either. And, you guessed it, no XP --> Vista theme converter either. Likely couldn't be done anyway.

So for now, looks like we're stuck with the default Aero/Glass look, which isn't bad. There aren't really any WindowBlinds themes either because everyone is waiting for SkinStudio v6. Except for vStyler's excellent Vienna for Vista WB theme. So until then, this is a call to all developers to craft a program to create and load Vista Themes and Visual Styles using Microsoft's native format (.theme, .msstyles, via uxtheme.dll patch).

Belchfire is also looking to forge a partnership with any such software development company or invidual interested in taking on such a project. Contact webmaster [at] belchfire.net if interested.

Hello, first time poster -- but I do co-own WidescreenXP.net with Widescreen (I think he's a member here, not sure though) -- anyway, In the past, with my XP rig anyway, I used (still do actually) StyleXP and ResHacker to display and edit my logon screens.

Thing is, now Microsloth had to go and screw around with the OS coding and make it a nightmare to try and reskin my laptop (came installed with Vista). I am wondering if the "logonUI.exe" (that most of us can find in XP) is in the same place in Vista. Personally, I don't like LogonStudio, and really do prefer to recode my own logons -- if anyone knows for sure that the logonui file is in the same place -- please let me know -- I will see if I can modify it to work with reshacker and start uploading nice logons ;)

EDIT: I just gave LogonStudio another go, this time for Vista -- and yep, not liking it at all. The reality of it is this....NO INPUT (or maker creativity needed AT ALL!!) needed other than picking a nice wallpaper and importing it -- THAT'S IT!!

Not sure if you or anyone else agrees with me, but that sucks!!

So, if anyone knows a better way to create Logons, please let me know promptly....would greatly appreciate being able to design ALL of the elements for a vista logon. I will make one of my first logons that I made for XP for Vista, but am very hesitant about the direction Logons Creating is taking :(

Yeah I hear you. LogonStudio XP has loads of options. Perhaps Stardock will improve and add more functionality to LogonStudio Vista.

Tuneup Styler 2 can create logons for Vista also, but also very basic. Like Stardock, they went for easy of use rather than loads of options. I'm all for ease of use, but there are certainly those that want more options, like moving the login location, changing the size and location of user pics, font, bitmaps, etc., etc. Can't help you there I'm afraid.

I'm the originator of the patches everyone across the globe uses. The big problem is the fact the msstyle format changed and has yet to be fully reverse engineered. Until that happens, don't expect anything decent to come out.
